Earthquakes
Kashmir earthquake relief
Synopsis
The material for this lesson is based on the earthquake in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, in October 2005. Using maps and statistics, students consider the factors that affect levels of devastation resulting from major earthquakes, with specific focus on the features of earthquakes in less economically developed countries. The humanitarian aid role played by the MOD (Navy, Army and RAF) and the Department for International Development will be explored in detail as students consider impacts and responses to earthquakes.
An animation helps to demonstrate key features and processes of earthquakes and stimulating video provides an insight to the humanitarian consequences.
