Energy and resources
MOD provision of security to oil supplies
Synopsis
This lesson explores resources, their sources and their management. Both renewable and non-renewable resources are considered, with specific reference to the MOD's development work in bio-fuels and other alternative fuel sources and the continued use of nuclear power. Global dependence on fossil fuels is explored, including the wide variety of products manufactured using crude oil as well as fuels, and the importance of oil to world economies.
Students might consider the importance of protecting oil and gas facilities and other sites of power production and the possible role of the MOD in providing protection. Detailed consideration is given to the relationship between development and resource consumption throughout the lesson.
