MORI poll - attitudes towards the Armed Forces

Synopsis

This lesson presents the findings of a MORI poll which was commissioned by the MOD in varied formats, challenging students to extrapolate key findings, review various data sources, identify key questions and bias and extrapolate findings. Students are encouraged to cross-reference and to interpret findings. Lesson episodes are themed, and wherever possible data-sets encourage students to review attitudes and responses amongst their own peer group (aged 16+). Each episode is supported by additional multi-media visuals, bringing to life the respective element of the MOD's work.

Learning Outcomes

Lower ability students will:

• Be able to interpret various types of data tables and to understand the differences and similarities (attitudinal or otherwise) between panels.
• Understand that research panels should be comprised of individuals with similarly influencing factors.
• Be able to identify these influencing factors and understand the meanings of such terms as demographic.

Average ability students will:

• Be able to cross-reference separate data tables and be able to spot patterns within data sets.
• Be able to draw conclusions from data and to understand the reliability (or otherwise) of this data.

Higher ability students will:

• Be able to draw sophisticated conclusions from data, using additional source data to verify findings or to add colour.
