Health related fitness
Fitness of British Troops - Royal Marine training
Synopsis
This theory-based lesson looks at Health Related Fitness (HRF), Physical Related Fitness (PRF) and Skill Related Fitness (SRF) within Physical Education. It also uses the Royal Marines in training as a case study for learning. The lesson is supported by a range of PowerPoint Slides and Student Worksheets.

Learning Outcomes
Lower ability students will:- Appreciate that there is a difference between health and fitness and understand why sportspeople must adhere to keep themselves healthy and fit for best performance.
- Recognise that health is not just absence of illness.
- Recognise the importance of fitness testing and realise that each position in sport / activities has different fitness requirements.
- Recognise the importance of various aspects of fitness in relation to the work / training undertaken by British troops, including the Royal Marines.
- Fully understand the difference between health and fitness and why sportspeople must adhere to keep themselves healthy and fit for best performance.
- Recognise that health is not just absence of illness but overall physical, mental and emotional well-being.
- Recognise the importance of fitness testing and realise that each position in sport / activities has different specific fitness requirements.
- Recognise the importance of various aspects of fitness in relation to the work / training undertaken by British troops, including the Royal Marines.
- Have a complete understanding of the difference between health and fitness and why sportspeople must adhere to keep themselves healthy and fit for best performance.
- Recognise that health is not just absence of illness but overall physical, mental and emotional well-being.
