The role of the ATA in WW2

The Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA)

Synopsis

This lesson provides an engaging context for students to look at the role of women in the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) during the Second World War (1939-1945) and the impact their work had on the war effort. In order for students to make an informed judgement, they are encouraged to compare the role of the ATA with that of the RAF during the war. It is intended that this lesson is delivered following 'The role of Women in the Second World War' lesson and assumes that students have an appreciation of the other roles undertaken by women during the war.
