Glacial landscapes

RAF flying in mountain areas – Low Flying and Helicopter Rescue

Synopsis

This lesson looks at the way in which Glaciers helped to form Britain's landscape during the ice ages, using Snowdonia as a case study. Students make use of engaging imagery to recognise the key features of glacial erosion. They then complete a mystery exercise to examine how the landforms produced by upland glaciation provide the perfect terrain for performing different exercises, including low level flying and mountain climbing. These exercises provide training for possible future operations in mountainous and Arctic environments.
